Good News for B2B Tech Sellers
ESN #006
Did you know that despite all the doom and gloom about sellers getting fired, mid-sized B2B tech companies are up 12% in total hires from April to October.
My friend Adam Schoenfeld, founder of PeerSignal, has put together his “B2B Software Index,” which is a basket of 1,436 SaaS companies with 5 to 5K employees.
The companies in the index collectively employ 59,074 more people in October than April.
So the data shows that the reality is that hiring is not down in B2B tech.
It just isn’t growing as fast as it was before April.
Let’s break this down a bit.
According to PeerSignal, here is the change in the percentage of B2B tech companies whose hiring is increasing, flat or decreasing.
As of just a few weeks ago, 41% of the companies in the index have increased their headcount!
When you look at the breakdown of companies by size, the hiring squeeze is worst for the smallest companies (5-100 employees).
The bigger players with 100-1k and 1k to 5K employees are trucking along at 12-ish percent employee growth all the way through October.
Across all categories, hiring is net positive.
And in the last four months, recruiting of sales and marketing talent has only fallen 4% from its high of 71% of open roles in August to 67% at the end of October.
If you think you’re ‘safer’ jumping to a large public software company, check this out. The PeerSignal B2B Index companies are collectively hiring at a faster clip than seven marquee companies used as comparators.
All these numbers just tell a very different story than what we hear in the media.
It’s not all bad news.
So even if you or sellers close to you are out of a job due to the downturn,
There is a ton of hiring going on across all sizes of tech companies.
